Recent Events

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 -- Surprise guests at regular convocation

Just as Companions of the Chapter dug into the fine BBQ'd steaks to launch the new Capitular year, two distinguished Royal Arch Masons made their presence known -- somewhat unexpectedly. in the region to attend the International Plowing Match, the Grand 2nd Principal, R.Ex.Comp. Michael J. Bowman, and the Grand 3rd Principal, R.Ex.Comp. Brian VanSickle appeared at the entrance of the dining hall. They declined the invitation for dinner, and stood aside until the meal was over.

The Grand 2nd and 3rd Principals were received in due form into the Chapter, along with R.Ex.Comp. Rod Haufe, Grand Superintendent of RAM District 12. Following the appropriate formalities, they proceeded to present Carleton's 2nd Principal, Ex.Comp. Charles Singh with the 2nd place trophy of the Royal Arch golf tournament held in August. Comp. Singh, as it turned out, made a significant contribution to the foresome with the application of a high quality driver loaned to him by a neighbour who is in the golf equipment distribution business. Comp. Singh was also presented with a collapsable chair. The foresome included Comps. Vansickle and Haufe, and R.Ex.Comp. John Lofthouse of Maple-Granite Chapter No. 61.

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 -- Travelling Sceptre presented to Prince of Wales Chapter

A delegation of seven members of Carleton Chapter No. 16 sojourned to Prince of Wales Chapter No. 133 on January 25th to present the Cross-Cassibo Travelling Sceptre after recieving it from Grenville Chapter No. 22 of Prescott the week earlier. This was the first fraternal visit between the two Chapters in a number of years and everyone found the experience most worthwhile. Prince of Wales Chapter amalgamated with St. Francis Chapter a year ago, merging the Royal Arch Masons of Lanark County into a single Chapter and using the name of the Perth body and adopting the register number of the Smiths Falls body. In addition to our contingent, a number of visitors were present to witness the Installation and Investiture of Officers for the ensuing Capitular year.

Candidates (l-r):
Bro. Colin Macleod-Simpson, Bro. Robert Towsley, and Bro. Danny Ouellette
Carleton Chapter was delighted to receive the Grand Superindent, R.Ex.Comp. Anthony Kopf-Johnson, with full honours and dignity on the occassion of his Official Visit, at  the regular convocation in November. An excellent banquet was provided by Third Principal, Ex.Comp. Charles Singh, and the Companions participated enthusiastically in the toasts and acknowledgements traditionally offered at such events. Upon the completion of the reception of the Grand Superintendent, and the business of the Chapter, the degree of Most Excellent Master was conferred on two of our candidates, Bros. Robert Towsley and Colin Macleod-Simpson. The third candidate, Bro. Danny Ouellette, participated in the ceremony as the Keystone Bearer as he had already been received and acknowledged at the regular meeting of St. John's Chapter No. 148. St. John's Chapter hosted its Official Visit on October 26, and was in need of a candidate in order to demonstrate the Chapter's proficiency in conferring a degree.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010 -- new Mark Master Masons welcomed into Chapter
The Officers and Companions of Carleton Chapter No. 16 conferred the Mark Master Mason degree on three candidates as they began their journey to learn the sacred word and discover the lost secrets. Brothers Dan Quellette, Robert Towsley and Colin Macleod-Simpson enthusiastically participated in the degree, which the Companions delivered with skill and decorum.

Saturday, June 19, 2010 -- Open Air Lodge at the top of Owl's Head Mountain
The excursion to Owl's Head near Stansted, QC, was a great success with 30 Master Masons on board our bus to witness an open-air Third Degree as emulated by Golden Rule Lodge practicing York Rite ritual under the Grand Lodge of Quebec. The ride on the chair lift to the summit was spectacular, and the hike to the natural lodge room rigourous!

The ritual varies from that practiced in Ontario and most parts of Quebec, and displays many Royal Arch elements, the whole being familiar to any Royal Arch Mason. It is yet to be confirmed, but the Lodge will be held again next year, tentatively June 18, 2011. This site will update the detail as it is confirmed.

Companion Alan Lawrie is acknowledged for his support by Dominic Riffou-Loomes, Senior Councillor of Ottawa Chapter, Order of DeMolay for Young Men, at "DeMolay Appreciates Masonry Night" held at the Ottawa Masonic Centre on November 28, 2009. Companion Lawrie (and Loblaws Vanier) assisted the members' fundraising efforts for Relay for Life, MasoniChiP Child Identification Program and the Youth's annual Mothers' Brunch.

The first regular convocation of the new year (September 16/09) was a Chapter of Instruction featuring the details of how the Chapter Room is set up and the purpose behind each item in the room. This was well received by our three recently Exalted members who have accepted officer positions in the Chapter and are anxious to learn as much about Capitular Masonry as they can possibly absorb. Afterwards, several of the members ajorned to the Walkley Bowling Centre for a period of fellowship while we re-freshed our aching memories of the 5-pin bowling of our youth....

At the regular convocation of March 18, 2009, the Council for the ensuing year was installed and Officers invested (see News). The Chapter hosted a number of visitors from sister chapters, some of whom assisted in the Installation Ceremony. Companions from the other four chapters in Ottawa District 13 were present, including Ex. Comps. Brian Griffin, Les Richardson, Alan Simpson and George Chiaba, of Ottawa Chapter 222; Ex. Comp. Michael Jenkyns of Kitchener Chapter No. 210; R. Ex. Comp. Andrew Graham, Grand Superintendent, and V. Ex. Comp. Barry Watson, both of Maitland Chapter No. 68; and R. Ex. Comp. John Moor, St. John's Chapter No. 148. Also in attendance were: V. Ex. Comp. Gary Gosling, Grand Master of the 2nd Veil and a member of Dochert Chapter; and Comp. Geoff Roberts, Scribe Ezra of Sanhedrin Chapter.
